History Chemion Logistik GmbH

Chemion Logistik looks back on over 100 years of experience in the field of logistics in the chemical industry and associated sectors. Initially it was the central division Central Logistics of the Bayer group, later a 100% subsidiary of CURRENTA GmbH & Co. OHG.

Today Chemion operates at 3 locations with approx. 1,000 employees: Leverkusen, Krefeld-Uerdingen and Dormagen. In 2011 the turnover was 124 million Euros.

The company Chemion Logistik GmbH is certified according to EN ISO 9001:2008 and according to the Ordinance on Specialized Waste Management Companies. Furthermore, Chemion is committed to the Responsible Care Initiative of the chemical industry.


2010

Chemion Logistik GmbH has had a new managing director since November 1st 2010: 
Uwe Menzen.


2009

Chemion Logistik is awarded the international certification for its corporate integration management (BEM) from the Institute of Quality Assurance in prevention and rehabilitation (IQPR). Chemion is the first company from the chemical industry in Europe to receive the certificate and this certificate confirms that Chemion Integration Management (ChEM) complies with the legal requirements.

Ebbecke Verfahrenstechnik and Chemion Logistik GmbH pool their skills and offer companies from the chemical industry and associated sectors the professional handling of granulates and powdered substances along the supply chain.


2008

Chemion Logistik takes over the support of the passenger car fleet of Bayer corporate divisions. Around 2,500 vehicles change to the central fleet management of Chemion.

As one of the few operators of commercial vehicles and special equipment (including explosion-proof forklift trucks) Chemion Logistik also offers its equipment for short term rentals of one day up to twelve months.

In 2008 Chemion Logistik receives the challenge cup for the service providers of the year 2007 from INEOS Manufacturing Deutschland. Chemion receives the award for reliable, safe and economical services in the railway sector.


2007

Chemion Logistik inaugurates the new container terminal at the Dormagen location.

The 7,000 square meter bimodal system is especially designed to store dangerous substances and equipped with modern RFID technology.
The new container terminal has 360 spaces for 20` box and tank containers.

Chemion Logistik and BLG Logistics Solutions conclude a cooperation. The agreement forms the basis for the joint operation of both companies when processing logistic services for dangerous goods for Siemens Transportation Systems in Krefeld.


2006

Chemion celebrates its 5th anniversary. After five years working in the chemical industry and associated sectors the company draws a positive balance. Since the beginning of operations in 2001 Chemion has made substantial investments and restructured the organization: the provider of logistical services invested around eleven million Euros in new container technology and terminals in recent years and counts among the top 10 companies in the German container business with storage and handling capacities of 1,400 and 70,000 TEU  respectively.

Chemion Logistik receives the award of „Excellent Logistic Service Provider“ from Tronox Pigments GmbH, the third largest manufacturer of titanium dioxide worldwide. The tribute was paid for first-class service as well as for a high level of quality and reliability of its logistic services.

Start of the initiative Chemion Integration Management (ChEM) to reintegrate employees into the workplace. The exemplary implementation was honored by Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) with a prize.


2005

Chemion Logistik GmbH has had a new managing director since May 1st 2005: Andreas Hardt.

Chemion Logistik offers a new service: commercial fleet management. Companies are able to optimize the capacity and availability of industrial special and commercial vehicles and transfer the coordination and administration efforts to the logistic specialists.

On behalf of Log-o-Rail the logistic service provider processes the regional rail traffic for the printing ink manufacturer Siegwerk Group International. The weekday shuttle guarantees the company that primary products will be delivered on time and safely. The Chemion Logistik rail shuttle to the Siegwerk operates on weekdays.


2004

Chemion Logistik offers sample service as a service provider and operates a central sample service center (MSC), in which product samples are bottled, stored, packed and labeled  professionally and shipped via the complete transport processing chain. This service enables customers to completely outsource their shipping of samples and transfer the central control of the sample service to Chemion Logistik.

Chemion inaugurates a new container terminal. The storage capacity of the logistic specialists doubles through the system specially designed for dangerous goods. With this Chemion counts among the largest providers of storage space for dangerous goods containers in Germany. The new container terminal boasts handling capacities in one shift operations of 10,000 TEU per year.

Chemion presents an innovation in the field of industrial trucks: an explosion-proof front seat loader, which was initiated by Chemion together with the forklift truck manufacturer Still and Miretti, retrofitter for explosion proof apparatus.


2003

Chemion Logistik GmbH has had a new managing director since July 1st 2003: Jürgen Sommer.

Chemion Logistik inaugurates complex logistic system for Makrolon®. 250,000 tons of Makrolon® granulate can be stored and bottled annually. 30 million Euros were invested in this project.


2001

On July 1st 2001 Chemion Logistik GmbH was hived off from parts of the former central division Central Logistics from the Bayer Group and other logistics facilities of Bayer corporate divisions.
