Leverkusen | October 25, 2010: A plus for efficiency and the environment
Chemion Logistik is presenting its basic approaches on the topic of Green Logistics at the K Trade Fair (27th October until 3rd November 2010, Düsseldorf). The logistics service provider will thereby be showing how innovative logistics solutions have to be organized in order to make a contribution towards the reduction of CO2 emissions. The basis of the concepts is always the optimization of the supply chain so that an improved environmental compatibility for transports is also economically viable for companies.

Green Logistics and the optimization of the supply chain go hand in hand if certain factors are taken into account – Chemion Logistik GmbH is sure of this. From the viewpoint of Chemion in no way does Green Logistics have to be associated with high costs. It is rather the case that another possibility of organizing transports in a different way is opened up, that of making logistics „greener“. Ralf Thiesen, Marketing and Sales Manager at Chemion: „When arranged early enough, transports can be organized simultaneously in an economical and environmentally friendly way.“ If needs are identified and orders correspondingly placed at an earlier stage, this has a positive effect on the flow of commodities. Transports then have a longer lead time and can be bundled and sent via alternative routes. In Chemion’s estimation this is possible with on average 40 percent of orders placed by companies. „If speed is no longer the all-decisive aspect when transporting goods, then there is no longer any need to arrange these consignments by road as spot transports. In place of this the goods can be sent by rail or ship,“ explained Ralf Thiesen, „which is reflected in a reduced carbon footprint for transports.“
In any case, the topics of safety, efficiency and environmental compatibility are closely linked to each other for Chemion as a specialist in handling hazardous goods. Therefore these aspects are also focal points when developing each logistic solution: initially the logistician checks existing commodity flows for efficiency. Optimizing processes then consequently leads to a contribution also being made to Green Logistics. From the point of view of Elmar Ockenfels, Business Analyst at Chemion, it can frequently be seen: „Green Logistics is not a burdensome demand, but rather a good and economical solution.“ Such solutions are, on the one hand, possible as conventional or also intermodal transports as multimodal transports through the bimodal and trimodal terminals in Leverkusen and Dormagen, which are operated by Chemion. Furthermore, Chemion has also developed two possibilities with the feeder train and pre-carriage concept, with which transport pre-carriage is avoided on the road, resp. loading processes are secured at the location: pre-carriage to the container depot Cologne-Eifeltor can be handled at the locations Leverkusen and Dormagen from the railway sidings. Elmar Ockenfels: „What this means for the client is that the handling of the pre-carriage via rail brings with it easier planning and a high degree of safety due to the high reliability.“ In the case of the pre-carriage concept Chemion takes on services for forwarding agents in CHEMPARK, upon request, which would otherwise be their responsibility when loading. The consequence of the Chemion offer: the forwarding agent saves time and resources. And the customer is able to use a comprehensive service to organize the first mile with the combination of feeder train and pre-carriage concept and to select a more environmentally friendly carrier by using the rail transport route.
Chemion is presenting its basic approaches on the topic of Green Logistics at the joint Cologne Bonn Business (CBB) stand in Hall 7a, Stand 35D.
