Leverkusen | June 13, 2007: Chemion Logistik and BLG Logistics Solutions Sign Cooperation Agreement
Chemion Logistik and BLG Logistics Solutions today signed a logistics services agreement at the transport logistic trade fair in Munich. The agreement forms the basis for joint action of the cooperation partners in performing dangerous goods logistics services for the Krefeld-based Siemens Transportation Systems.
„Our cooperation with Chemion Logistik enables us to provide Siemens Transportation Systems with a well-thought-out integrated logistics solution,“ says Andreas Wellbrock, Manager at BLG Logistics Solutions. „We therefore welcome today’s signing of the logistics agreement which provides us with the basis for our future joint work.“ BLG performs all supply and disposal services for Siemens Transportation Systems at the Neukirchen-Vluyn and Krefeld sites where Siemens produces, among other things, high-speed trains as, for example, the InterCityExpress (ICE). Their manufacture requires specific insulating and adhesive materials as well as specific varnishes. Storage and handling of these substances require know-how in dangerous goods handling and specifically designed storing facilities. That is why BLG looked for a competent dangerous goods specialist to take over storage and handling of dangerous goods. Heinz Martin, Director International Projects at BLG: „In Chemion we have found a reliable partner with many years’ experience in dangerous goods handling. Moreover, Chemion is located in close proximity to the Siemens Krefeld-Uerdingen production plant which allows for an efficient supply of additional logistics services.“
BLG and Chemion have been cooperating since September 2006 when the two companies started to jointly provide Siemens Transportation Systems at the Neukirchen-Vluyn and Krefeld sites with dangerous goods logistics services. Cooperation has been a positive experience: Once per day, Chemion’s dangerous goods storage facility at Krefeld-Uerdingen receives client’s orders whereupon the service provider picks the products according to the call-off list. As a next step, the goods are prepared for BLG Logistics for transport and loaded on trucks so that each unloading station at the Siemens production plant will receive exactly the call offs ordered on a special dangerous-goods pallet. As a consequence, the client receives an overall process that is perfectly coordinated from storage through loading to transport where safety and efficiency go hand in hand. And the client additionally benefits from the quasi bite-sized pickings which are supplied directly to the production lines.
Andreas Hardt, CEO of Chemion Logistik, is convinced that the signing of the logistics agreement lays a good basis for extending the joint service offer of Chemion and BLG. „By combining our competences and our networks we are able to offer a broad portfolio of logistics services. Depending on our clients’ needs our services can be bundled into customized service packages and this will be of interest to other sites, too.“
