Leverkusen | February 09, 2008: Chemion Logistik has taken over the Bayer Vehicle Fleet
Chemion Logistik has taken over the servicing of the passenger car fleet of the Bayer subgroups with effect from January 1, 2008. As a result, about 2,500 vehicles change to the central fleet management of the logistics service provider who has serviced the commercial vehicle fleet of the nine companies for several years already.
Encapsulating the advantages of central fleet management for the Bayer companies, Gerd Clemens, Head of Vehicle Fleet Management and Maintenance at Chemion Logistik GmbH, says: „With this take-over of the passenger car servicing by Chemion the subgroups can now rely on full service from one source for their vehicle fleet“. It will help the companies reduce their internal administration expenses. In addition, costs will become more transparent and optimization potentials can be identified as manufacturers, lessors and other external service partners are now centrally coordinated and the control of the entire vehicle fleet is supported by one single IT system. The central reporting provides the fleet managers of the companies with an overview of the entire fleet and enables them to conduct a systematic analysis of potentials. Gerd Clemens: „It is the client who decides whether - besides passenger cars and commercial vehicles - its fleet is also to include forklift trucks, dumpers or trailers. We are completely flexible in this respect and as far as fleet management is concerned we are not fixated in any way on „vehicles“ only.“
The principle of “leaving the decision to the client” also applies to the choice of services and the fixing of the depth of performance. Thus, when developing their individual service packages, the Bayer subgroups have not only made a choice on the type of service in the fields of procurement, financing, maintenance or return. They have also defined the respective range of services in line with their needs. Some companies do no only task Chemion with the neutral comparison of different manufacturers or lessors by use of a specifically designed online calculator and the return of the vehicles but also, for example, with the processing of tax bills and tickets or with the monitoring of technical inspection and TÜV dates. Other companies have chosen to only use Chemion’s reporting tools and to perform the other fleet services themselves.
The combination of different service areas in one concept and the possibility to centrally purchase fleet management services from Chemion for commercial and special vehicles as well as for material handling equipment is of great benefit to the Bayer subgroups: independent of what their vehicle fleet looks like they get a well-planned comprehensive solution tailored to their specific situation which can be flexibly advanced in line with the their respective business development.
