Leverkusen | March 05, 2007: Chemion Logistik - Partner for Medium-sized US Chemical Companies
Chemion Logistik used the stand of the Cologne-Bonn Business initiative at the Chemical Trade Show Informex (San Francisco, 13 - 16 February 2007) to promote the Cologne Bonn chemical industry region. Under the slogan „Chemion Cares“ the logistics service provider demonstrated how US companies can be supported in their dealings with European partners and informed visitors and exhibitors about its logistic performance portfolio.
„Our diversified logistics service portfolio is of particular interest to those American chemical companies which, in their capacity as importers, are dependent on reliable logistics partners in Europe“, says Ralf Thiesen, Head of Marketing and Sales at Chemion Logistik GmbH. It is true that, as medium-sized business entities, these companies do business on a global scale, but they rarely have a branch office of their own in Europe. With partial shipments being extremely expensive US companies often choose, for reasons of cost, to send full containers to Europe even for small order quantities. „That’s exactly where Chemion comes in. For example, we take over incoming containers in Rotterdam, place them in temporary storage, do the order picking and deliver partial quantities to chemical industry customers”, Ralf Thiesen says.
With over 4000 visitors and about 500 exhibitors Informex is one of the most important trade shows for special chemicals, intermediates and outsourcing for medium-sized companies in the United States. The Cologne Bonn Business initiative (CBB) and the ChemCologne initiative had already used their booth at the 2006 Informex trade show to strengthen the perception of the regional chemistry competence and the attractiveness of the Cologne-Bonn region in the US. As many of the booth visitors showed a genuine interest in logistics services it was only consequent that in addition to those who had initiated the common exhibition stand and to Bayer Industry Services (BIS) and TÜV Biotech Rheinland, Chemion Logistik was among the exhibitors in 2007 as well. Under the slogan „Chemion Cares“ the logistics service provider gave an overview of its services ranging from warehousing via import processing and paper documentation to container handling. Chemion used the three-day trade show to have in-depth conversations with exhibitors and visitors to exchange views and inform about how Chemion’s services could be of use to American companies in their business activities in Europe.
As a result of these conversations, Chemion made not only numerous new contacts with potential customers but was also able to bring some definite performance inquiries back home to Germany – a result with which Chemion is highly satisfied and which is regarded as a clear sign of a continuously growing importance of reliable partner networks. It is true that Germany has regained its position as export champion of the world, but with the globalization of the supply chains there is also an increase in the imports of products from Asia, America or Eastern Europe into Germany. „In the end, every importer needs a partner at eyelevel who is familiar with the target market and who is capable of acting competently in this market. For us, the Informex trade show was a perfect platform to show these enterprises that Chemion -as a full-service provider in the field of logistics and with container storage facilities in the hinterland - can effectively perform this function of a partner“, says Ralf Thiesen.
