Leverkusen | January 27, 2011: Chemion offers new ex-protected manual pallet truck including security consultation
The right equipment and detailed instructions are the best ex-protection

Usually it is mere carelessness that leads to accidents. Security breaches are still a common occurrence during standard industrial truck operations in areas subject to explosion hazards. Many companies, for instance, still use conventional manual pallet trucks in these areas. Even if these are fitted with conductive rollers, the danger of sparking is far from being averted. “Frequently such a careless approach is down to a lack of information and ignorance”, comments Angelo Lombardo, director of industrial truck fleet management at Chemion. That’s why Leverkusen-based Chemion Logistik GmbH is launching a special offer that combines the sale of its latest ex-protected EXINOX manual pallet truck with a complimentary security consultation.
“Detailed information, ongoing training, and the refreshment of existing knowledge are essential aspects of active explosion protection”, emphasizes Lombardo. “With our offer customers get more than just a high quality piece of equipment; they also profit from our expertise as Germany’s leading pool operator of ex-protected industrial trucks.”
What some companies are unaware of: not all work equipment used in hazardous areas post-2003 is subject to the ATEX directive 94/9/EC and the explosion control directive. For instance, according to its definition, the directive only applies to equipment where the risk of potential ignition is intrinsic.
“Sometimes, however, the danger of ignition only arises when equipment is in use”, warns Lombardo. In addition to static discharge, one major hazard are sparks caused by mechanical friction, impact and grinding. “This means that all ex-zone equipment and protection systems must be designed to avert such hazards. After all, when handling highly sensitive materials even the tiniest spark can have the most catastrophic results”, Lombardo continues. “By consistently using suitable transport equipment such as the EXINOX, employees are protected in all areas where an explosive atmosphere can arise – even during normal operations – through air mixing with combustible gases, vapours or mists. In such instances we are happy to support our customers with the appropriate equipment and our many years of experience.”
The ex-protected EXINOX manual pallet truck is now available for order from Chemion.
