Chemion Logistik has quite a bit in store
Central control system ensures safe, efficient and economic warehousing and handling processes

Chemion has quite a bit to offer in and around the field of warehousing: as an operator of tank farms, general cargo warehouses and container terminals Chemion has many years experience in the control and execution of warehousing and handling processes. No matter whether these are liquid, solid or even dangerous goods – all material is well taken care of by Chemion. Highly qualified staff, professional data processing systems and highest security standards guarantee safe processes and maintain the goods in good order and condition.
Storage and Handling – an all-round performance
Optimization of processes – this is, to Chemion, a subject that encompasses all fields of activity. In view of the increasing competitive pressure we are seeing a growing demand for higher performance and flexibility in warehousing and logistics centers. Efficient warehouse management with storage processes being integrated into the preceding and subsequent processes is a prerequisite for short distances and high-level efficiency. This is why all of Chemion’s warehouses are optimally designed for the logistics processes and, at customer’s request, the actual storing of goods is combined with other services, such as, for example, filling or handling. As a consequence, the customer is provided with a comprehensive solution with as few interfaces as possible and smoothly interlocking processes around the storage of its goods. Customer companies can also profit from Chemion’s expertise and process know-how for the planning and management of their own warehouses: as an experienced service provider Chemion combines its know-how with creativity to deliver innovative customized solutions in and around the fields of warehousing and handling and to support its customers in the management of their warehouses.
The right place for each piece
A storing space for 97,000 pallets is available for the storing of general cargo in block, rack, narrow-aisle and outdoor warehouses at Chemion’s facilities in Leverkusen, Dormagen, Krefeld-Uerdingen and Duisburg. The storage area totalling more than 85,000 square meters provides the right storage bin for each package. This also applies to packages containing dangerous or sensitive goods: As Chemion puts great emphasis on safety numerous warehouses are equipped with special floor sealing and sewerage protection systems. Other safety features are fully automatic sprinkler systems, foam fire extinguishers as well as gas warning systems. Conveyor sections are used to ensure the handling and transport of goods for general cargo too: They are used for the automatic loading of general cargo followed by a shuttle transport which guarantees the quick transfer within the facility.
Large boxes well piled: Container Terminals for 1,400 TEUs (Twenty-feet Equivalent Units):
Today’s freight traffic would be unimaginable without the container that can be universally used on all carriers. Since the internationally standardized box and tank containers can also be used for the storage and transport of hazardous substances Chemion as a logistics service provider for dangerous goods has invested in recent years in bimodal and trimodal facilities in Leverkusen und Dormagen: With a storage capacity of about 1,400 TEUs the service provider ranks among the top ten terminal operators in Germany. Two of Chemion’s warehouses are among the few facilities along the Rhine that are fully licensed under the Bundes-Immissionsschutzgesetz (BImSchG) (Federal Immission Control Act) and are, thus, qualified to store containers containing hazardous substances for more than 24 hours. Efficient IT systems guaranteeing effective and safe processes ensure a to-the-minute timing of all container movements at all terminals.
Competent Handling of Liquid Substances
As a logistics service provider specializing in the handling of dangerous goods and close-to-site services Chemion operates for its customers various tank farms, including filling stations, in Leverkusen and Dormagen. Operating a tank farm always means the transportation of large amounts of raw materials and products: This may easily be one million tons of liquid raw materials and intermediates per tank per year; more than two million tons are filled from the tanks into mobile containers, such as barrels, box containers or tank cars. Here too, efficient systems and the central control of the handling and filling processes are the key to efficiency and cost effectiveness. With many years experience Chemion is able to combine warehousing with other services and cover all logistics tasks from filling to loading and finally to the transport of liquid products.
