Leverkusen | May 2, 2007:Innovative Approach to Create Custom-Tailored Solutions

Chemion Logistik uses transport logistic to present boundary-spanning concepts

Leverkusen, May 2, 2007. At the transport logistic trade show in Munich, June 12-15, 2007, Chemion Logistik will present new concepts making logistics services in the fields of container management, rail traffic, automobile fleet management and site services more efficient. In doing so, Chemion focuses on complex process chains and on the individuality of customer demands for comprehensive logistics solutions.

„We take innovation in logistics as a challenge to custom tailor each logistics solution to the specific needs of our customers“, says Ralf Thiesen of Chemion Logistik GmbH. As the Head of Sales and Marketing sees it, ready-made service packages will no longer be suited to cope with an ever-increasing complexity in logistics and different company processes. „What we need are comprehensive solutions and a boundary-spanning way of thinking to be able to integrate different fields of service in an overall concept.” Visitors to Chemion’s booth in hall A 5 booth 226 at the Munich transport logistic in June will see how the logistics service provider puts this approach into practice. On about sixty square meters, fairgoers will be able to access information about Chemion’s services in the fields of container management, automobile fleet management, site services and rail traffic.

No matter how different these fields of logistics are they all have one thing in common: In all these fields a multitude of individual services must be closely coordinated with each other to ensure the efficiency of the overall process. This requires expert knowledge, competent interface management and experience in controlling complex logistics chains. A high degree of individualized service additionally requires a good understanding of the customer’s specific needs. However, from Chemion’s point of view this alone will not be enough. Also, the situation at the beginning of the process chain needs to be carefully reviewed and integrated into the development of the overall solution. This is how logistics concepts can emerge and provide all those involved with a noticeable added value.

Take rail traffic as an example: rail transport is usually considered as a standard product. Consequently, industry rarely expects individual services in this domain and takes the view that - with respect to flexibility - road freight enjoys considerable advantage over rail. But Chemion convincingly shows that regional traffic can be planned with sufficient flexibility to meet the specific needs of a customer. Ralf Thiesen: „When approaching a task we consider not only the situation of the customer but also the conditions reigning at the shipper’s premises and then we start to design the overall concept in way that allows both parties at the beginning and at the end of the process chain to benefit from it.“ In doing so, additional synergies can be realized if not only the actual transport is integrated into the concept but also all rail-related on-site services and services beyond. This will make transport a reliable component of production and distribution logistics.

Visitors to the Chemion Booth 226 in Hall A 5 are invited to talk with field representatives about the process approach of logistics concepts. In addition to this, they will get the opportunity to experience railway logistics live and to assure themselves of the complexity of site services provided before and after the actual transport: They will be invited to take part in a railway game to test their own switching skills.
